Winslow Homer Studio Store Branding & Design

Murphy Empire partnered with Portland Museum of Art for their Winslow Homer Studio Store to develop a complete brand identity system and MEM-worthy product line—handmade logos and marks, bespoke packaging and unique, vintage inspired design for poker cards (each card hand designed), drink coasters, bar soaps, letterpress stationery, and the exclusive Studio Booklet published by the Portland Museum of Art. Our aim was to bring cohesive visual storytelling across retail, print, web, and promotional campaigns.

Brand Identity & Creative Direction

Our creative direction centered on honoring the legacy of Winslow Homer and the unique sense of place at the Studio. We built a visual identity system that balances handmade sensibility with refined presentation—bringing together texture, craftsmanship, and modern clarity. Every piece echoes the artist’s spirit and the Studio’s visitor experience.

Logo Design & Visual Language

The logo and supporting handmade calligraphy-based mark system were crafted to reflect heritage and a fresh, intentional aesthetic. From typography to grid to iconography, we developed visual elements that work seamlessly across product, print, and digital media—giving the Studio Store a distinctive brand presence rooted in authenticity and design refinement.

Packaging, Product Line & Print Collateral

We translated the identity into a full product suite: limited-edition poker cards, coasters, bar soaps, letterpress stationery, and the Studio Booklet. Each item was thoughtfully designed with materials, layouts, and production techniques that reinforce the brand’s story and quality. Additionally, print and web promotional materials ensure the visual system carries across every touchpoint.
